We are asking that everyone, including natural history museums and collections actively support this initiative in whatever way you can (volunteer, participate etc.). We want the voices, opinions, and stories of Black people to be heard, reflected and respected in Natural history museums.

BlackINNHMs Reflections

This day will kick off #BlackInNHMs week with a series of updates on the progress of our organization.  Take a peek at where we have been and our next steps moving forward.

Tuesday, October 17

SciArt in NHMs 

11am-1pm EST | 90-minute showcase

 Art plays an integral role in science communication and natural history, especially to our community as a way of expression. We will explore these dynamics through an art showcase. During the showcase our guest will share their art and talk about how they create their art, their inspiration, and the intersection between art and science, followed by Q and A.

Diversity at the Top: Black in Museum Leadership

 6-7 pm EST | 60-minute panel

Museums have long struggled to diversify their staff, leadership, and boards. Join us for a panel discussion with Museum leaders from across the country as we discuss their pathways to leadership, and strategies, challenges, and opportunities to increasing Black participation in Museums.

BlackINNHMs Roll Call

This event will address what it means to be Black in Natural History Museums (NHMs) and serve to introduce our community members to the broader scientific community and the general public. This event will also highlight the various careers available in NHMs. Roll Call

Wednesday, October 18

Education, Outreach and Engagement

12 -1:30pm EST | 90-minute panel

Museums have always been rich venues for teaching the public about a myriad of topics. This event will showcase the amazing people leading the vital education, outreach and engagement efforts of natural history museums. Join us as we share strategies, highlight engaging events, and brainstorm ideas about programming designed to reach our communities.

Friday, October 20

 African “Diaspora” Around the world & Community Conversation

 1-2:30 pm EST| Comm Convo

This event will highlight or discuss, the fact that our organization is for ALL members of the African Diaspora (a Global network). We will have a Community Conversation with a presentation from our founder Adania, open to all followed by a conversation for members of our community.
